Vladimir Martirosyan

Graduate Researcher & MS Information Systems Student

My research focuses on using tools such as third-wave AI, Machine Learning, and Natural Language Processing to analyze information spread in social media, quantifying its reach and the behavioral patterns that drive it.

Why is my aunt sending me the fifth link this week to buy a panacea drug for $29.99? How is there so much misinformation on social media? Why does it spread so quickly? Who creates it? Is this AI-generated?

These are questions many of us ask nowadays, yet the answers remain surprisingly elusive. My research centers on exactly these problems. Using large-scale datasets and empirical methods, I aim to quantify how false and misleading content propagates across social networks -- mapping the structures that amplify its reach, estimating the polarization effects it produces, and identifying the platform-level features that predict sharing behavior. Through causal inference and emerging AI models, I aim to design and test interventions that measurably reduce exposure to low-quality content. My long-term goal is to produce actionable, data-driven evidence that informs platform policy at scale.
